I began using a product last week by the name of Rejuvacote by Duri Cosmetics to strengthen my nails. It can be used as a base coat and a top coat along with color polish. You apply it every day for seven days, then remove it. Then apply it every two days after you see an improvement in your nails.
I'm on day five and my nails haven't broken or split at all. As a hairdresser my hands are constantly wet. On a busy day at the salon I have shampooed up to sixteen people. When I'm not shampooing, I'm cleaning. No wonder my nails became so soft! I really like the shiny, smooth as glass finish...it's very pretty.
We sell Rejuvacote at my salon, www.avalonmontclair.com. If your nails need help, and you're in the area, stop by and pick up a bottle. Ask for Jennifer, that's me and I'll get that for you.

Yay, I'm back! It's been a long time since I've written anything due to my new job as a hairstylist. It's not only a new job, but a new industry for me as well. I love it, it's frustrating, it's fun, and it's challenging all at the same time.
I really wasn't sure if I really wanted to try to make a living "doing hair." I had serious doubts while completing my Cosmetology Program that I was really cut out for this type of work, pun intended. Then my mind changed one day when I realized that even Vidal Sassoon was an apprentice at one time, we all have to start somewhere.
More doubts came to mind when I looked in the mirror and clearly saw my age. Would anyone even consider hiring me? I was fifty-two when I started my program. At the age of fifty-four, with my new license in hand, I found someone that decided to take a chance on me. I've come a long way in eight months and still have much more to learn.
What I love about this industry, is that there's always something new and fresh. How can constant change ever be boring? I think I've finally found something suited just for me! You should have seen my reaction yesterday when my boss told me that she's picking up eighty pairs of false eyelashes this weekend. I was so excited you would have thought that I'd won the lottery! Yeah, this is fun for sure.

It's necessary in this world of ours to find time to relax. I become so goal oriented sometimes, that I forget that life is happening now. It's not something in the future, it's right now.
This present moment is all we really have since there's no guarantee that we'll even wake up tomorrow, so what's the hurry? Besides, rushing around and worrying only creates more wrinkles, drama, and shoots up the blood pressure, no thanks!
What I like to do when I catch myself being a bit too "Type A" is to slow down and draw. My art is tiny. The paper I work on is a 3.5 inch square and with all of my combined supplies, it fits neatly in a pencil box.
While reading a short biography on the artist Peter Max, he said that he never really knows what he'll paint. He doesn't plan it, he just let's it happen. That appeals to me, to let creativity flow out naturally. I think that's why I love his art so much, it's bright, fun, busy, yet relaxing to look at!
Here's a link to my most recent art, I had fun drawing it and I hope you enjoy it!

Yep, it's allergy season! Here's how to stay gorgeous when your eyes are red and itchy and you can't stop sneezing. To calm down marathon sneezing, I wet down a hand towel, roll it tight and microwave it for a couple of minutes. Be careful though, it's really hot! Wave it around for a few seconds, then lay down and apply it to your face. If you're claustrophobic, let your nose stick out a little bit, this is supposed to be relaxing, not freak out time! Take some nice, slow, deep breaths and let out a sigh...instant calm! When the towel is cool, take it off and you'll feel a lot better. For the red, itchy eyes try some OTC allergy eye drops before you apply your makeup, look in your mirror gorgeous, perfection!

What a beautiful day...the weather is warm and there's a slight breeze. After dropping off my daughter at school this morning, I decided to go to the beach for a walk. My hips were a bit stiff when I woke up and I knew I needed to work out the kinks.
I walked the entire length of my shoreline then realized I was hot and sweaty. Suddenly I wondered why I was even wearing shoes, this is the perfect day to walk ON the beach with my toes in the sand and water. So I kicked off my shoes and socks, removed my hoodie and sweat pants (shorts underneath) and walked to the cool water.
It was fun to watch all of the beautiful patterns in the sand and I wished I'd had my camera with me. It was funny that I noticed the sand patterns instead of the rocks. I've been a rock hound since I was very young and always pick up a rock or two at the beach. Not today though, looks like I've shifted my focus since I began drawing. The patterns of little rivers and caves was far more interesting to me. Be open to change.

What a week I've had, so busy! Tonight I turn in early, I have a big day tomorrow. I'm attending my great-nephew's First Communion then a family party afterward. Yes, I'm bringing my jicama salad. :)
My husband and daughter are off to a camp work weekend. They're cleaning up the campsite and getting it ready for the summer. It's always kind of strange when they're gone. Having some down time with no responsibilities other than feeding the animals, can be a good way to recharge my energy.
It'll be a good time to finish my library books. I'm reading Bobbi Brown's "Living Beauty." I've always admired her work and love her way of helping women update their look with new makeup, haircolor, hairstyle, and wardrobe. The before and after shots in the book are amazing.
As we get older we really do need to change how we apply makeup and especially the colors we use. I agree with her that we need to soften our colors so our wrinkles aren't so noticable. I've thrown out the red lipstick for good. Love the color, it's been my favorite since I was a little girl, BUT it looks so harsh and ages me by a good ten years.
I'm also an ex-smoker and have the yucky little lines around my mouth and red lipstick just bleeds out, not attractive. I guess that's why so many stars have gotten their lips plumped up with collagen injections, but in my opinion, it looks horrible. I've seen some very pretty women absolutely destroy their faces. Just think, someone is telling them that it looks great as they take their money!
I've switched to pink lip gloss, it's shiny, sexy, and takes years off my face. Cover Girl "Lipslicks" are my favorite glosses. They have nice colors and are very inexpensive, less than five bucks. It's good to stock up when they're on sale, I buy several at a time. I keep a couple of different colors in my makeup bag in my purse and one in my car. There's no way I can face the world without a few things, lip gloss, mascara, and eyebrow powder; my bare essentials.
Keeping my lips soft is important too. After I brush my teeth every night before bed, I apply Burt's Bee's Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter. My lips feel so soft in the morning! It's kind of expensive, but it lasts a long time and sometimes you just have to spend a bit more for a quality product.
Make it a great weekend, have some fun!!!

I almost forgot to share my dinner from last night, it was Mexican Jicama Salad! I was going to serve it as a side dish with our black bean and brown rice burritos. My daughter suggested that we put the salad IN the burritos, we did, and it was absolutely delicious! What a great idea! On mine I put down the black beans first, then brown rice, the jicama salad, fresh diced tomato, smashed avocado, then hot sauce...yum!

Good Morning!!! Even though it's almost raining here and cloudy, it's a great morning because I WOKE UP. I'm happiest when I focus on the simple things in life, like breathing!
Check out my new article "Why You Need a Vita-Mix..." If you want to look good and have healthy hair, skin, and nails, good nutrition is a must. There's no getting around it, we need to stay hydrated and get our vitamins and minerals every day to improve us on a cellular level.
I forgot to mention in the article to drink your smoothie either after exercising or 2-3 hours before. Once you've made this mistake, you won't do it again!
Anyway, enjoy your day and make it fun!

Well I am finally online, yay! I've been writing for the past couple of months and have so much information to share with everyone. Today is my 14th wedding anniversary so I'm going to begin posting articles here tomorrow. For now, I have to dash off to the grocery store to get what I need for a lovely celebration dinner!
